Personalized Care
More than a Phrase at MNRS
Miami Neurology & Rehabilitation Specialists (MNRS) has established itself as a facility that is committed to providing personalized rehabilitative care for injured workers.
Neurology is the medical speciality which studies the brain, spinal cord and nerves of the body. MNRS Medical Director Guillermo A. Martinez, M.D., Board Certified in Neurology, examines patients as part of a plan of action for rehabilitation.
Since MNRS has a fully equipped facility with state-of-the-art diagnostic and physical therapy equipment there is a seamless transition for new patients to rehabilitation and an increased opportunity for patient's return-to-work.
"One of our specialties is working with individuals who have vertigo and balance problems, often as a result of a head injury," explained MNRS administrator Nick Gazo, P.T.. The facility also provides diagnoses and physical therapy for musculoskeletal injuries.
Working closely with the individual patient, the staff also seeks to keep the referring physician, case manager and insurance adjuster current on the status of the case. The results have been gratifying.
"Our rehabilitation program has proven very successful for patients. We are very much hands on and keep the individual involved and as motivated as possible," Gazo pointed out.
While many patients are seen "in house", MNRS also provides rehabilitation for patients referred by physicians. In each case, the patient receives a thorough evaluation before therapy begins.
The evaluation includes a history of the type of work the individual did up to the time of his or her injury. With that knowledge, MNRS can then tailor the therapy to the needs of the individual in order to increase the chances that they can return to their jobs.
"Part of our evaluation is to determine what the daily necessities are for the patient and then we seek to address those needs," explained Carolyn Martin, P.T.
She added that part of the therapy program is to help the individual understand that they can't return to their old ways of doing things on their job but have to learn new "body mechanisms" to avoid re-injury.
Martin said that patients are encouraged to continue their therapy program and exercises at home. "We give them realistic exercise programs that they can do on their own," she added.
Martin said that as a therapist she wants to help individuals not only return to work but to keep their jobs after their rehabilitation is complete.
