Vehicle Modification Company Expands

Businessman "Movin' On" in New Venture

Andrew Goodyear understands the industry in which he works and has grown his business, Wheelchair Getaways, over the last fourteen years in South Florida. The company expanded to Fort Myers and business is brisk.

Since Goodyear's vehicles were wheelchair accessible vans used by vacationers, injured workers and clients undergoing rehabilitation, it was natural that he learned a lot about accessible vehicle modification. And, because Goodyear is a wheelchair user himself, there was added knowledge about mobility issues.

He has applied his business skills and knowledge of the mobility industry to a new opportunity, the development of Movin' on Mobility which provides vehicle modification services.

The company was founded in Fort Myers by Rod Alt and Goodyear has become a partner, opening his own facility in Riviera Beach in Palm Beach County.

`"What we like about being based in this part of South Florida is that our research showed there was a need in the community from West Palm Beach to Jupiter," Goodyear explained. "There has been explosive growth in this area," he added.

Movin' On Mobility not only can provide mobility adaptations to vehicles but serves as a one stop shop in terms of purchasing a van or car specific to the needs of the new owner. "We have an auto dealer license and we can do everything right in this office, including locating the right vehicle," Goodyear explained.

He said that Movin' On Mobility works closely with area dealerships and seeks to educate them on the mobility market. "We work to be a resource for them because, in many cases, they don't know as much as we do about the marketplace," Goodyear said.

Goodyear has a fleet of 22 vehicles in his Wheelchair Getaways operation and it is a natural fit with his new company.

"Drivers can rent a van to see if they like it before they buy a new one. We have a number of rental customers who end up buying a van from us," Goodyear added.

Any good mobility business has to provide service and Goodyear said he has hired mechanics who have experience in the industry.

"I understand the needs of my customers because of my own experiences and I work hard to give them the extra service that has been so successful with Wheelchair Getaways," Goodyear said.

Ed. Note: Movin' On Mobility is a member of the National Association of Mobility Equipment Dealers (NMEDA) and is part of the organization's Quality Assurance Program (QAP).
