Partnership Announced

In the prosthetic and orthotic rehabilitation field, reputation and quality work are crucial to success. It is also important to build a team that believes in the principal of listening to the patient and working to meet their needs.

With that principal in mind, Terri Sparber Bukacheski, CP, LP/OF of Ortho Pro Associates announced that Aldo Alvarez, MS, CPO, LPO has become a partner in her company following a nine year professional association.

"From the stand point of where we are and what we are doing professionally, we felt it was a good time to move forward. We each bring something different to the business," Bukacheski said.

She noted that Alvarez was not only an excellent practitioner but was also good at building relationships in the community. In addition, their combined certifications offer the full range of orthotic and prosthetic services.

For his part, Alvarez said that the partnership opportunity was important to him. "I always felt I had an investment in Ortho Pro Associates but this increases my involvement," he explained. That will include taking part in the management of the company. "I'm very happy because now there is more than one person involved in the day to day operations," Bukacheski added.

The company philosophy focuses on making sure there is enough time in each appointment to provide the best personalized service for each prosthetic or orthotic patient. There is also the challenge of community education.

"We do want to be more visible and let providers know that we do workers' compensation and vocational rehab cases along with other insurances," Bukacheski said.

Prosthetic Parity

She and Alvarez are also advocates for efforts to pass a prosthetic parity law in Florida. The legislation would reverse the growing trend by third-party payers of placing an annual or lifetime cap on prosthetic devices. Or even eliminating coverage.

Bukacheski pointed to the Colorado law which requires any primary health benefit plan that provides medical care coverage to include coverage for prosthetic devices in accord with medicare standards.
