From Experience
Marcos Szeinfeld, M.D. is a pioneer in the treatment of pain conditions, having established just the second practice of its kind in South Florida in the 1980's, but that is just one of the facts that has to be drawn out of him. Another is that he has treated the pain conditions of some of the biggest sports stars in the country.
Dr. Szeinfeld and his colleague Aaron B. Rosenblatt, M.D., treat patients at Fort Lauderdale Pain Medicine, where you don't have to be a sports legend to get personal care. "I was Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Miami School of Medicine, and Associate Director of the Pain Clinic, so I like to talk," Dr. Szeinfeld said with a chuckle. Dr. Szeinfeld is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
Patients and referral professionals will find it easy to converse with both physicians, who believe that communication is vital to successful treatment programs. They are a combined team of experience and youth which seeks to treat the whole patient. Dr. Rosenblatt is Board Certified in Pain Medicine and Physicical Medicine Rehabilitation. He completed a Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Pain Management Center where he served as Chief Fellow.
"I have always wanted to live in South Florida, so that is where I focused my search to live and work," Dr. Rosenblatt said. As far as his chosen specialty, Dr. Rosenblatt also focused on his preferred specialty. "It is very nice to be able to use your mind as well your hands to help people suffering from pain to become more functional," he emphasized.
New patients receive a complete history and physical exam and diagnosis to determine the cause of their pain and any related conditions that might impact the treatment program. "We emphasize a one-on-one approach and incorporate treatment options tailored to the specific condition," Dr. Szeinfeld noted.
The combined experiences of the doctors can make a big difference for patients and insurers. Dr. Szeinfeld said he was motivated to bring Dr. Rosenblatt into the practice in order to have someone with a different opinion to work as part of a team. Together they have treated patients as young as 18 years of age through senior citizens.
Expanding Workers' Compensation Practice
The physicians treat pain patients referred under various insurances and private pay and have been expanding their workers' compensation practice. They have participated in the Florida Workers' Compensation Conference where they have been able to establish working relationships.
"We have a lot of contact with adjusters and case managers when we are treating their patients, and we have had a good success rate in getting workers with pain conditions back to function," Dr. Szeinfeld said.
Like many pain practitioners, Dr. Szeinfeld and Dr. Rosenblatt believe that injured workers should be sent, early in their treatment program, to a pain physician, before surgery is contemplated. "We had one case recently where a young man avoided surgery because of successful treatment," Dr. Rosenblatt pointed out.
"This is a specialty that is still evolving and it is going to happen that it will become a field of practice on its own. That will happen in the next few years," Dr. Szeinfeld predicted. "This is a huge territory for practitioners."
