Thom Delilla, Bureau Chief in Tallahassee for the Florida Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program oversees a program that includes five regions of Florida. Each region has administrators, case managers, rehab technicians and support personnel to meet the needs of Florida residents and their families.
The BSCIP is a Bureau under the State of Florida, Department of Health, Division of Emergency Medical Services an Community Health Resources.
The BSCIP provides acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, transitional living services, adaptive equipment, home modifications and other services that might be needed to assist an individual with community reintegration. The services are provide through state designated and approved facilities.
Under the program case managers assist clients and their families with information and direction.
The BSCIP is funded through a state program that generates funds from a percentage of civil penalties, surcharges on temporary auto tags and driving and/or boating under the influence. The funds are appropriate to the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program to provide services as a payer of last resort.
Anyone with a traumatic brain or spinal cord injury to the program's registry. The number is 800-342-0778. Under the law, every physician or representative of a public or private health or social agency is required to report injuries to the registry within five days of their occurrence. The case is then referred to a case manager.
