Rehabilitation Programs
Dan Dourney, P.T. has a challenging opportunity before him as the President of the South Division for Select Physical Therapy. Due to the recent acquisition of HealthSouth’s Outpatient Rehabilitation business Dourney and his team of professionals are working to raise awareness of the Select Medical name in outpatient physical rehabilitation.
The company now has over 1,100 outpatient centers in 37 states and the District of Columbia, comprised of former HealthSouth, NovaCare Rehabilitation, Argosy, Joyner Sportsmedicine, Kessler Rehabilitation and Sports & Orthopedic Rehab Team (SPORT) clinics. This includes 33 outpatient centers in Georgia.
"We will be making changes over time," Dourney said in a recent interview. "We are developing a strong and cohesive network of industrial rehabilitation prevention and management services.
"Ultimately, Select Physical Therapy will be the brand that Dourney wants patients and referral sources to come to know as the leader in physical rehabilitation services. This is another step in the evolution of the company, Select Medical Corporation, founded just over ten years ago by Rocky Ortenzio, P.T.
In addition to the outpatient facilities, the Select Medical operates inpatient specialty hospitals (LTACHS), the renowned Kessler Institute of Rehabilitation and Select Medical Rehabilitation Services, the contract therapy division.
Dourney indicated in the interview that Select has incorporated some best practices of the services and programs offered by the facilities now under the corporate umbrella. An example is Argosy’s onsite physical therapy program.
"We also offer POET (Post Offer Employment Testing) Physical Reconditioning Programs, Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE), hand therapy and other services. “We constantly work to be on the cutting-edge and our objective is to be a team player with industry to help them reduce workers’ compensation costs and keep their workers healthy and productive," Dourney emphasized. The mission statement of the company puts it this way, "we work together to achieve our clients objectives."
"We have a lot of talent within our organization and in the divisions that encompass Select Medical’s Outpatient Division. We plan to continue to grow professionally in providing workers' compensation services," Dourney said.
"Our WorkStrategies Program is the key to Select Medical's commitment to providing workers' compensation solutions," said Kathy Beckett, National Clinical Director of WorkStrategies. "Select Medical incorporates a partnership approach to workers' compensation claims and injury management. Our goal is to be solution based and create customized and cost-effective approaches to the prevention and treatment of work-related injuries."
Dourney added that the company believes in having "engaged employees who take ownership of the work they do. We empower them to take authentic leadership."
Dourney concluded the interview by saying he is focused on promoting the message of Select Physical Therapy, which emphasizes high quality clinical are, a positive work environment, results oriented rehabilitation, service excellence to our patients and customers and creative solutions to return-to-work challenges.
