Noted Researcher, Community Leader Bernard Brucker, Ph.D. Dies at 61

Bernard "Bernie" Brucker left a legacy in the physical rehabilitation community.


Bernard S. (Bernie) Brucker, passed away suddenly on February 16 as a result of a heart attack. He was 61 years old. He left behind a legacy of being a pioneer in the effort to improve the quality of life for persons with brain injury and/or spinal cord injuries.

He also left behind hundreds of friends and colleagues who remember him for his passion for his work, his humor and his dedication to organizations such as the Brain Injury Association of Florida, where he was serving as President of the Board of Directors at the time of his death.

A developer and proponent of biofeedback as a method of treatment for individuals with neurological challenges, Dr. Brucker maintained that brain cells could be "taught" to develop function. "Bernie", as just about everyone who knew him, referred to Dr. Brucker, worked equally with the rich and famous and those who could not afford treatment.

Dr. Brucker was an associate professor at the University of Miami Department of Pyschiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the Brucker Biofeedback Center at the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital.
