Latest Technology to Enhance
Personal Service to Patients

It would not be overstating the fact that the vast majority of the professionals who attend the Florida Workers' Compensation Educational Conference understand that after all of the breakout sessions, networking events and expo hall visits, the work they do is about getting the injured worker back to life and employment. It is also about people in our community, at work and in our neighborhoods.

On some level, professionals find a way to give back and the Orthopaedic Center of South Florida (OCSF) is a good example. When the group recently teamed with other companies to present a workers' compensation forum, they donated the registration funds to an organization that provides safe homes for abused and neglected children.

The doctors at OCSF also participate in seminars, workshops, in-services and speak at meetings locally, such as a recent presentation at the Broward Rehabilitation Nurses Association (BARN) luncheon or at statewide meetings, including the Florida Workers' Compensation Conference.

The practice, composed of ten physicians working in five South Florida locations, has been a fixture in the community for over two decades and has grown to meet the needs of patients. Staying on the cutting edge of technology, the offices are paperless, providing digital X-rays, imagining and reports with a keystroke on a computer.

"We have come a long way," said Chief Operating Officer, Robin Fielding, who has overseen the technological advancement at OCSF. "We continually work to customize the service and keep up with the reporting needs of insurers, adjusters and case managers."

Walking through the halls of the three story main office in Plantation, one can see computer monitors strategically placed so doctors can view an x-ray or other diagnostic image. They can click through and visually examine specific areas of the image and different layers of the injury site. The technology allows the doctor to enhance the image for closer inspection or send to a colleague for another opinion.

The practice has physical therapy, hand and occupational therapy, MRI, digital X-rays and in-house pharmacy services, proving the "one-stop, one-call" service demanded in today's fast paced medical environment.

But Fielding emphasized that it is the personal service of the doctors that define OCSF. The team includes specialists in spinal surgery, hand and micro-vascular surgery, complex foot and ankle surgery and sports medicine. The practice also provides IME's and Second Opinions.

"The doctors have always done workers' compensation and we understand the needs of our patients, the adjusters and case managers," Fielding told the Voice. "In addition, our goal is to provide the best customer service and with the help of technology we continue to find ways to to it better."
