Orthopaedic Associates USA is a team practice offering a full range of specialized orthopaedic procedures to meet the specific needs of their patients. Warren W. Windram, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S. brings his expertise and experience as a foot and ankle surgeon to the practice.
It is a good, young group of dedicated doctors who have their own specialties and who are responsive to their patients and other members of the health care team, Dr. Windram told the Voice News in a recent interview.
Prior to joining Orthopaedic Associates USA, Dr. Windram was the founder of the three year foot and ankle surgical residency program at Hollywood Medical Center in Florida. He said he enjoys teaching and research and has coordinated a number of research projects with Podiatric Surgical Residents in South Florida.
Certified to treat workers' compensation patients, Dr Windram said that he sees a lot of injured workers who have sustained fractures or sprains. "We like to see these patients as quickly as possible; right from the emergency room, if possible. We know we can get them better must faster if we can start a treatment program right after the injury," Dr. Windram said. "A majority of our patients return to work."
Orthopaedic Associates USA has incorporated the latest technology including electronic medical records and digital X-rays. There is also on-site pharmacy, on-site physical therapy, custom bracing and durable medical equipment services.
"We have ongoing communication with case managers about the status of their patient and they can also access their patient files through a very secure portal. In the same manner, we can quickly look up information when the case manager calls," Dr. Windram pointed out.
That is particularly important in the more complicated workers' compensation cases such as those involving crush injuries to the foot or ankle. "These can be challenging because there are often open wounds that must be attended to and we call on state-of-the-art therapies in these cases," Dr. Windram stated.
There are almost always other factors that enter into a treatment plan and that requires good record keeping, communication and, above all, honesty which Dr. Windram said is "very, very important."
In workers' compensation cases, he stresses that communication go an extra step. "I think one of the main things is to get access to the employer, and if needed, develop work restrictions to allow the injured worker to get back on the job. It shows the employer cares about them," Dr. Windram pointed out.
Dr. Windram's message: When physicians, case managers, adjusters and employers work as a team the chances for a successful outcome dramatically increase.
